About SOHO

The Society of Hematologic Oncology (SOHO) was established as a non-profit corporation in 2012 with aims to promote worldwide research, education, prevention, clinical studies and optimal patient care in all aspects of hematologic malignancies and related disorders. Since that time, nearly 7,000 members from 110 countries have joined the society from around the globe. SOHO is a global society designed specifically for clinicians, research scientists and related health care professionals who specialize in the research and treatment of patients with hematologic malignancies. SOHO’s mission is to expedite worldwide research and education through the exchange of scientific information. Organized by its founders and world class committees, SOHO is the only international society specific to this field.

Society Structure

SOHO is led by a Board of Directors with eight voting members. In addition, an outstanding group of clinician-scientists have been assembled to serve on the Steering Committee to provide guidance and direction in the continued development of SOHO.
Two additional committees, Scientific and Education, are responsible for abstract review and the scientific program of the annual meetings, respectively. A third committee, Publication, is responsible for identifying opportunities for publishing work derived from the Society's activities. In addition, members of the Publication Committee manage the publication of papers for the society's featured article series, "SOHO State of the Art and Next Questions." SOHO MENA

Following the success of the first SOHO MENA 2023 meeting, the Society of Hematologic Oncology (SOHO) is expanding its global community, spanning from Houston, Texas, to Beirut, Lebanon. This growth is driven by the SOHO Ambassador Program, which appoints renowned experts in different countries to represent the Society in their regions. These ambassadors facilitate local discussions among experts and organize official SOHO satellite meetings, often in hybrid formats. The SOHO MENA meeting, in collaboration with the Lebanese Society of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (LSHBT) and hematologic societies across MENA countries, will take place in person at the Ministry of Culture | National Library in Sanayeh, Beirut, Lebanon, on September 26th, 27th & 28th,2024 and also offered a virtual attendance option for those who could not attend physically.

Why Lebanon ?

Elias Jabour, MD, who is originally from Lebanon, and Amer Zeidan, MBBS, MHS, a native of Jordan, serve as ambassadors to the region. The two will co-chair the program that is Led by Ahmad Ibrahim, MD, universities of Balamand, LU and BAU, Lebanon, who is also an ambassador, and Rami Komrokji, MD, Head of the Leukemia and MDS Section at Moffitt Cancer Center. Drs. Jabbour and Zeidan stated that one of their motivations in organizing a local chapter is to give back to their communities. The goal for them is to establish collaborative channels for medical research and education, aiming to help build capacity in their home regions SOHO MENA will have the distinct challenge of customizing each local event according to the specific needs of the region. Hopefully it will not end with the meeting. The meeting will be just a starting point for additional collaborations. Beyond the scientific talks, in-person networking is invaluable for progress in research. The affordability of these local meetings, offered through membership at no cost, ensures accessibility for those who may not have been able to afford to attend otherwise.
